Frame Lock Knives - Items tagged as "3.1" to 4" manual folding"

Second only to Liner locks Frame Locks are commonly found on the modern spring assisted knives particularly higher quality models due to there enhanced safety. The idea is similar in concept to a liner lock, but stronger and simpler as the frame of the handle is actually creating the lock instead of a frame liner. As the frame is inherently thicker this type of lock offers enhanced protection with the only drawback being that it takes extra pressure to release and close the blade as opposed to a liner lock. It works because of a cutout along the axis of the spine which has a relief cut that creates inward pressure that engages the rear of the blade tang to lock the blade in place once the blade is deployed. To close the blade a manual push of the portion of the frame that created the lock will unlock the blade enabling it to be folded back into the closed position.
